EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Nation Ford High School junior Mason Bucciero was selected for the 2025 Disney Dreamers Academy at Walt Disney World in Florida. He hopes to learn ways to help raise money for St. Jude after losing his brother to a brain tumor—joining 100 students in a five-day program that began this week. Tega Cay Sun
- ➤ Gold Hill Elementary School in Fort Mill won the 2025 South Carolina Scholastic Chess Championship on March 22—defeating competitors from over 90 schools with team members including Aayansh Bhakta, Anirudh Kannan, Ashvadheer Radhakrishnan, Ashwath Kalagiri, Johann Jayabarath, Maria Jayabarath, and Samvit Reddy. Johann Jayabarath qualified for the individual state finals on April 5. Tega Cay Sun
- ➤ Graduating seniors in the Fort Mill School District will explore job, college and military options at the Next Steps Career Fair on April 15 at Fort Mill High School from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.—local employers, colleges and military recruiters will share information and answer questions. - ➤ Brigadier General Robin B. Stilwell (a native of Greenville) was confirmed by the Senate as South Carolina's 30th Adjutant General on March 26 and will lead the National Guard, emergency management and the Youth ChalleNGe Academy. He brings decades of military service including deployments to Afghanistan, Kosovo and Kuwait (experiences that build strong leadership) to his new role. Tega Cay Sun
- ➤ Brigadier General Robin B. Stilwell, a native of Greenville, was confirmed on March 26 as South Carolina's 30th Adjutant General following Governor McMaster's nomination as he succeeds Major General Van McCarty. He takes charge of the National Guard plus its Emergency Management Division and Youth ChalleNGe Academy and vowed to ensure that personnel have the resources and training needed for missions at home and abroad. - ➤ Duke Energy and county officials will test outdoor warning sirens around the Catawba and McGuire nuclear stations on April 9 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. with sirens sounding for five to 30 seconds + no public action will be required. WRHI

- ➤ On March 26th, Fort Mill High School track and field teams won a dual meet over Rock Hill High School on their home track—girls remained unbeaten. Both boys and girls delivered strong shows in sprints, relays and field events that highlighted the school’s talent. WRHI
- ➤ Several area prep lacrosse teams are playing key regional matchups tonight—Nation Ford Falcons girls host Catawba Ridge Copperheads with senior night at 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. game, while in the boys division the Catawba Ridge Copperheads will host the Nation Ford Falcons at 7:30 p.m.; Fort Mill lacrosse teams face Clover as the boys travel and the girls host a game at 7 p.m. Tega Cay Sun
- ➤ Nation Ford Falcons defeated Catawba Ridge Copperheads 11-6 in a girls' lacrosse match played Thursday night in Fort Mill — early goal scoring by Caitlyn Stolarek built a safe lead.
