  • The Town of Fort Mill hired Dr. Gordon Burnette III as its new Assistant Town Manager on April 4 — he previously served as Chief Communications Officer for Brunswick County Schools and Public Schools of Robeson County and has a background in public administration, communications and education. He will oversee departments such as Parks and Recreation, Communications, Events, Municipal Court and Information Technology — town officials say his leadership is expected to boost operations and community engagement.  WRHI
  • Sen. Michael Johnson from Tega Cay proposed the Equine Advancement Act in a Senate Judiciary subcommittee meeting this week to allow horse race betting on approved apps—5% of all wagers would support the equine industry. The bill, which aims to boost a $2 billion sector with nearly 29,000 jobs, faces strong opposition from critics—such as Gov. Henry McMaster, who says gambling is bad for our culture.  Tega Cay Sun
