- ➤ Winthrop University received its largest cash gift in history — a $2.5 million donation honoring Virginia Bellune Collier ’30. The gift funds $2 million for teacher education scholarships and $500,000 for a professorship to support future educators in STEM and the arts. Tega Cay Sun
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Tonight, Yellow Jackets and Blue Eagles renew their local rivalry in a four-matchup lacrosse series. The varsity boys face off in Clover while the varsity girls and junior varsity teams aim to boost their season records at home. Tega Cay Sun
- ➤ Monday night, Fort Mill boys lost 12 to 7 to Clover in lacrosse while the girls won 15 to 5 against the Blue Eagles. Tuesday saw rivalry contests in softball and soccer held at both schools. Tega Cay Sun
- ➤ Fort Mill Yellow Jackets girls’ soccer team beat the Clover Blue Eagles 4-3 on penalty kicks after a 2-2 tie on April 14—winning goal scored in the shootout. The team now prepares for road matches at Rock Hill on April 17 and Northwestern on April 21. Fort Mill Prep Sports
- ➤ At Tega Cay Golf Course, crews began demolishing the retaining walls on holes 10 and 18 this week; officials say the new sloped approach will let golfers avoid harsh drops and improve play this fall. Tega Cay Sun
