- ➤ Senator Michael Johnson filed Senate Bill 530 to give local zoning boards more power to stop work on properties that violate zoning rules after a Silfab Solar dispute in Fort Mill—he said the measure and its companion House Bill 4293 are backed by many residents despite expected developer opposition. He met with the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman last week and said he will push for a subcommittee hearing on the bill. Tega Cay Sun
- ➤ At its April 21 meeting, the York County Council approved a $173.4 million budget proposal with key investments in infrastructure & expanded staffing for Parks and Utilities. Residents and council members raised concerns about Silfab Solar near Fort Mill schools and called for more oversight while the council moved ahead with additional public projects. Tega Cay Sun
- ➤ Attorney General Alan Wilson announced today that South Carolina received $66,833,057.18 from the tobacco Master Settlement Agreement & that the deal involved 45 states, DC and five U.S. territories settling claims with cigarette companies. Most of the funds will go to the Department of Health and Human Services & support the Medicaid program to help cover healthcare costs related to tobacco use. WRHI
- ➤ On April 21, the South Carolina Senate voted 33–8 to remove State Treasurer Curtis Loftis for a $1.8 billion accounting error discovered during an accounting system change (the first use of removal on address in state history), and the decision now goes to the House for final approval.
