CRIME NEWS

  • The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center reported that South Carolinians lost $146 million to cyber crime in 2024—an increase of $27 million from the previous year—with older victims suffering the highest losses at $58.5 million. The report detailed top crimes including extortion, phishing/spoofing, and data breaches along with business email compromises, investment fraud, and romance scams causing the most financial damage.  WRHI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina lawmakers advanced House Bill 4163 on April 22nd, which proposes to dissolve the SCHSL and create a state-run high school athletic association governed by an 11-member board appointed by the governor, legislative leaders, and the state superintendent. Supporters argue the change will boost accountability while opponents worry it may remove experienced educators from key decision-making roles.  Tega Cay Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • Athletes from York County and other local schools raced on Friday at the 2025 Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic Elite Track Meet as Fort Mill Boys won the 4x800 Relay + Fort Mill High School had top finishes in distance races and field events while other schools like Northwestern and Clover also performed well ahead of state qualifiers.  Tega Cay Sun
  • Nation Ford overcame a five-goal halftime deficit to win an 11–10 playoff lacrosse game against Fort Mill on Saturday afternoon. The comeback victory sends the Falcons to the upper state finals where they will face the winner of the Greenville and Eastside contest.  Tega Cay Sun
  • Nation Ford defeated Fort Mill 11-10 in the 5A Division II playoffs on April 26 after Trevor Keaton scored the match-winning goal with 11 seconds left. This win moves Nation Ford into the Upper State Championship on Tuesday, April 29—where they will face either Greenville or Eastside.  Fort Mill Prep Sports
  • Robbie Ouzts, a local standout from Rock Hill and former Bearcat, was selected by the Seattle Seahawks today as the 175th overall pick in the NFL Draft. He played fullback for Alabama Crimson Tide and will join the Seahawks to build a tougher offense — a proud milestone for his hometown.  Tega Cay Sun
