- ➤ Hissho Sushi is relocating its headquarters and distribution operations to York County at 3621 Lazy Hawk Road in Rock Hill—bringing 146 new jobs and a $5 million investment. The company will begin operations in August. Tega Cay Sun
- ➤ Google Fiber will expand high-speed internet service to Fort Mill by offering three plans starting at $70 a month that include options for home internet, TV, and phone. This move follows its 2024 launch in Tega Cay and comes as the company upgrades its mobile app to further enhance customer experience. Tega Cay Sun
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ York County Council approved the first reading of the FY 2026 budget at its May 5 meeting, which adds a 1.5 mil tax for parks and recreation across all county residents — canceling the previous tax for unincorporated areas. Councilmen Watts Huckabee and Tom Audette opposed the change, saying it unfairly burdens municipal homeowners. Tega Cay Sun

- ➤ Local high school golf teams played in the Region 3-5A tournament on May 6 at Chester Golf Club, where Nation Ford finished second with a score of 306—Fort Mill placed fifth with a score of 339. - ➤ Fort Mill’s girls’ soccer team secured a 2—0 win over Indian Land on May 6 in the first round of the Class 5A Division 2 state playoffs with early goals by Mallory Kendall and Taylor Collins. The Yellow Jackets will face No. 2 seed Eastside High on May 9 in Taylors as coach Ralph Latchana said the team will rest and study film ahead of the matchup. Fort Mill Prep Sports
