- ➤ Brandi McCoy, 48, of York County was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for fraudulently obtaining PPP loans over $1 million by using false statements at her South Carolina daycare—she must also pay restitution to the SBA and complete a three-year court-ordered supervision period. WRHI
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Legion Collegiate Academy celebrated its Signing Day and Awards Ceremony on May 15 by honoring 24 student-athletes with college scholarships and presenting awards to top athletes and scholar-athletes. The school also recognized 84 students as National High School Coaches Association Academic All-Americans & conferred multiple individual scholarships. WRHI

- ➤ The York County Board of Disabilities Foundation Chair has asked officials to add funding for Miracle Park Phase 2 to the new county budget (the request may boost park services). Officials will review the proposal when drafting budget plans (details are pending). WRHI
- ➤ Preparatory work for a major water line project begins this week on Spratt Street in Fort Mill — contractors are installing silt fencing to protect the work area without disrupting traffic as crews plan to replace nearly 60-year-old cast iron pipes with over 1,500 feet of new line from Leonidas Street to North White Street funded by SCIIP. - ➤ The Fort Mill girls track team claimed their second state championship on Thursday at Spring Valley High School’s Harry Patrone Stadium by scoring 100 points to secure the school’s 40th team state title. Head coach Lee Whitaker, who previously led both cross-country teams to state crowns, won his first track title — a notable achievement in his debut track season. Tega Cay Sun
- ➤ The South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association announced rosters for the 2025 North vs. South All-Star games with players from Catawba Ridge and Fort Mill high schools earning selections in baseball and softball. Kendra Murray and Sarah Rocheleau represent Catawba Ridge in 5A softball while Fort Mill’s Carter Blankinship and Jacob Pettit join Caden Glauber from Catawba Ridge on the North baseball team.
