GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ York County announced it hired Matt Davis as Fire Services Director (he brings over 35 years of fire service experience) and he will start in July to lead the county's 16 volunteer and paid fire departments. Davis is expected to improve emergency services (his appointment supports the county's public safety modernization plan). Tega Cay Sun

- ➤ The Humane Society of York County (HSYC) named Scuba Steve and Sanford as its Pets of the Week; Scuba Steve is a 1-year-9-month-old tabby who has been at the shelter for 15 weeks, and Sanford is an 8-month-old dog from Animal Control who joined 6 weeks ago and is ready for adoption. - ➤ Nation Ford Prep held a signing ceremony on May 14 when eight athletes committed to college teams. The signees include four baseball players (Kaden Barnett to Florence Darlington Tech, Cooper Mitchell to Coker University, Ben Chuttey to USC Upstate and Ryan Dyer to USC Lancaster), a track champion to Converse University, a football player to Presbyterian College, a soccer player to Lees McRae and a lacrosse player to Columbia College.
