  • The Town of Fort Mill is hosting its Summer Beach Bash on Friday, June 6 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Fort Mill Amphitheater in Walter Elisha Park at 345 N. White Street—attendees will enjoy live music from Buffett & Beyond, a hula hoop contest hosted by the Strawberry Festival Queens, various food trucks, and nearby parking options.  WRHI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Carowinds laid off an undisclosed number of full-time employees as it started its 52nd season—driven by lower visitor expectations and economic uncertainty—while most were offered part-time or seasonal work coupled with a separation package.  WRHI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fort Mill School District announced that Daniel Beels is named principal of Springfield Middle School, Trina McFadden is set to lead Fort Mill Middle School, and Matt Mallery is appointed as Oak Grove Academy coordinator; Beels and Mallery will begin their roles in July (McFadden starts in January).  Tega Cay Sun
  • South Carolina launched a five-year pilot program that allows public schools to hire up to 10% non-certified teachers if candidates hold a bachelor’s or graduate degree and have five years of work experience. The program requires non-certified hires to enroll in a state-approved certification course within three years—ensuring they complete the same training and performance checks as certified teachers.  Tega Cay Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Move Silfab released a letter claiming that York County issued unlawful permits—permits that bypass a zoning board ruling against solar panel manufacturing in a Light Industrial district. The letter warns that a tanker truck transfer may cause an accidental chemical spill affecting over 53,000 people—local citizens have already filed a lawsuit over the issue.  Tega Cay Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • On May 28, the Berkeley Stags beat the Catawba Ridge Copperheads 2—1 in 10 innings when a wild pitch sparked the winning run in the 5A Division II state baseball championship game; the Copperheads must win game two, set for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Catawba Ridge, to force a decisive third contest.   Fort Mill Prep Sports
