- ➤ The Humane Society of York County in Fort Mill featured Zara— a 2-year-old diluted calico cat from an owner surrender who is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated— and Spumoni, a four-year-old mixed breed dog rescued in January and now fully recovered from injuries and heartworm disease, with both animals ready for adoption. The shelter also requested community support through fostering and donations during kitten season. WRHI
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Early Sunday morning in Rock Hill, police responded to Piedmont Medical Center after a 41-year-old man arrived with a gunshot wound to his hip on Simpson St during a verbal dispute—officers later arrested 54-year-old Ron McClurkin and charged him with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a crime of violence. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Brandon Jennings of Fort Mill earned his Bachelor of Science in finance and business administration at Westminster College during an outdoor ceremony on May 10 on Old Main’s Weisel Senior Terrace in New Wilmington. - ➤ VITAL Federal Credit Union members voted last month to merge with Founders Federal, and the Spartanburg branch at 1450 John B. White Sr. Blvd. will close on September 12 before reopening on September 15 as Founders Federal. Founders, founded in Fort Mill and serving over 276,000 members with more than $4.8 billion in assets, aims for a smooth transition + VITAL, which has one branch serving 6,000 members with $57 million in assets, will join the larger network.
