EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Fort Mill School District hired Citadel EHS to review safety at Flint Hill Elementary and Middle Schools near the Silfab Solar facility in response to community concern and pediatric environmental recommendations — the firm will assess external emissions and school systems to provide a preliminary plan in the coming weeks before the schools open.  WRHI
  • On June 3, the Fort Mill School Board approved a $253,042,935 general fund budget for next school year, raised starting teacher pay to $52,500, and increased athletic and band fees from $100 to $150 while starting a review of environmental health and safety issues near the Silfab Solar facility. The board also approved two dual credit courses with University of South Carolina Lancaster and reported a $26.5 million surplus from strong tax collections.  WRHI
  • On June 3, the Fort Mill School Board approved a $253,042,935 general fund budget for 2025—2026 that raised starting teacher pay to $52,500 and increased athletic and band fees from $100 to $150 while transferring $3.6 million to support district projects and new dual credit courses.   • Fort Mill High School will host its 5th Annual Booster Classic golf tournament on August 21 at Tega Cay Golf Club (registration starts at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.). The tournament will support school athletics by raising funds for equipment, travel and other needs (prizes will be given to top teams and winners of closest-to-the-pin and longest-drive contests).  Tega Cay Sun
  • Fort Mill Post 43 Juniors won their home opener 7-1 over York Post 66 on June 3 as pitcher Matt Scott threw five innings to secure a 2-0 record. The team will travel to York Comprehensive High School today for the series finale.  Fort Mill Prep Sports
