EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Fort Mill School Board approved new appointments at a special meeting on June 25, naming Dr. Latoya Dixon Assistant Superintendent of Student Services & Administration, Mr. Peter Olinger Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources & Educator Effectiveness, with Mrs. Jocelyn Young and Mrs. Cori Hustedt stepping into executive director roles. They will begin their new roles on July 1 and bring decades of district experience to their positions.  WRHI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents are warned not to touch the puss caterpillar because its fuzzy appearance hides venomous spines that can cause severe pain and symptoms lasting for days—this larva is often found on trees in parks and neighborhoods. If stung, people should remove the spines, wash the skin, apply ice, and seek medical help if symptoms worsen.  WRHI
  • Residents and visitors are advised to avoid the fuzzy puss caterpillar found in parks and yards during warm weather—its venomous spines can cause severe pain and other symptoms that may require medical care.  Tega Cay Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a special meeting on June 24, the Fort Mill School Board unanimously approved a revised budget of $254,487,140 for the 2025–2026 school year — a figure that includes a 21.2 mill property tax increase to fund staffing, academic enhancements, and new school openings, with the changes set to go into effect on July 1.  Tega Cay Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fox Thorpe pitched a complete game no-hitter in seven innings as Fort Mill Post 43 Juniors beat Rock Hill Post 34 8—0, striking out eight and allowing four walks while errors helped score seven early runs and improved their record to 5—2.
