CRIME NEWS

  • A 24-year-old motorcyclist named Justin Anderson died at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday near Doby’s Bridge Presbyterian Church on Doby’s Bridge Road in Fort Mill—no other vehicles were involved and police are continuing their investigation.  Tega Cay Sun
  • On July 10 at 3:09 p.m., York County deputies responded to a Dollar General shooting in Sharon where a man threatened a vehicle and was fatally shot after the driver fired his gun in self-defense — the York County Sheriff’s Office and the Solicitor’s Office have decided not to file any charges.  Tega Cay Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ellen Abramo, a long-time Fort Mill educator and parent of six, is running for the School Board with a campaign focused on strong educational values and careful fiscal management — she aims to support teachers, improve school safety, and cut unnecessary spending to benefit every student. Her platform builds on her classroom experience and commitment to meeting the challenges of a growing district.  Tega Cay Sun
  • The South Carolina Department of Public Health has updated vaccine requirements for all childcare and school students for the upcoming 2025 to 2026 school year, requiring fifth graders to receive two doses of the Hepatitis A vaccine, seventh to twelfth graders to receive one dose of the Tdap vaccine, and eleventh graders to receive two doses of the chickenpox vaccine — children with a history of chickenpox are exempt. The department also recommends additional vaccines for broader protection — these new guidelines will affect student enrollment and routine check-ups.  Tega Cay Sun
  • Fort Mill High School senior Chase Barrington-Hughes has raised over $7000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital while serving as his school’s lone representative in the national St. Jude Leadership Society—he attended the Next Gen Experience conference in Memphis where his cohort raised $92,000 in total support for lifesaving research.  Tega Cay Sun
