Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 31st of July.
Good morning, Fort Mill.
The Fort Mill School District has changed traffic patterns at several schools including Tega Cay Elementary to improve safety before the new school year and asked parents to check emails for new rules.
Crossing guards will now work only at crosswalks and vehicles leaving Tega Cay must turn right during drop-off and pick-up times—officials are also working with SCDOT and local police to make the new system work.
York County Council appointed Ryan Thomas as the new county auditor on July 21st; he brings nearly 15 years of local government experience and will begin serving on September 15th (including roles as auditor and treasurer in Cherokee County) to manage property tax assessments that fund schools, law enforcement and roads. This appointment is expected to increase transparency and efficiency in handling county finances.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services received a $14 million boost (with $4 million from the state and $10 million from federal funds) in July to help cover costs for opioid treatment medications like buprenorphine and methadone.
Health officials expect the extra funding to raise Medicaid treatment rates to 72% by encouraging more providers to offer these services.
