ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, August 14, 2025, Torban Walker, 66 from Clover, died at the scene after his car was hit from behind in a four-vehicle crash near Bethel Church Road on Highway 557 — Walter Duncan, 59, was charged with felony DUI as investigators continue to examine the incident.  WRHI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today at the York County Library Board meeting community members spoke against proposed policy changes to relocate books and add restrictions — board officials said they will review the feedback for next steps.  WRHI
  • On August 12, York County Council held a workshop to explain the county's plans to keep revenue neutral by rolling back the millage rate by 3.7 mills, which is a 6.5% cut. Council members also reviewed updates on capital projects—such as animal shelter resets and park improvements—and discussed using extra revenue for road work.  WRHI
  • On August 12, 2025, York County Council held a workshop to discuss a planned 3.7 mill rollback—equal to a 6.5% cut—to keep revenue neutral and possibly fund road projects. The council also updated capital projects including pending work at the corners facility and a reset of the animal shelter project aimed at meeting a $16 million budget.  Tega Cay Sun
  • South Carolina is offering a financial boost for those with disabilities who open a new Palmetto ABLE account where a $25 deposit earns an extra $25 bonus—this saving tool helps protect eligibility for benefits like Medicaid. State Treasurer Curtis Loftis said the program is part of Palmetto ABLE Savings Month and will widen next year to include people up to age 46.  Tega Cay Sun
