- ➤ Before it became South Carolina, the land was known as Carolana—a Latinized name given by King Charles I in 1629. The original charter was later invalidated and then reissued to King Charles II’s supporters, and the colony split into North and South Carolina in 1729. WRHI
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ South Carolina hit a record 2,464,262 employed in July with nearly 5,000 more jobs than in June and over 32,000 added compared to July last year—though the unemployment rate edged up slightly to 4.2% as 6,833 more people joined the labor force.
