EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a meeting on August 19, 2025, the Fort Mill School District named Katie Jenkinson of Banks Trail Middle School as the District Teacher of the Year and Jamale Foster of Catawba Ridge High School as the Support Staff Employee of the Year—recognizing their work in the schools.  Tega Cay Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At its August 18 meeting, York County Council approved several rezoning cases for properties in Fort Mill and nearby areas, recognized Corporal Lawrence Strom for his 25 years of service, and approved economic development grants including a $600,000 grant for Project Cross that will create 81 new jobs — a move aimed at boosting local investment. The council also approved a local vendor preference ordinance and referred other items for further study.  WRHI
  • Governor Henry McMaster asked the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to review a Section 1115 waiver that would require low-income parents to work or attend school for 80 hours a month to qualify for Medicaid—state leaders say the change will strengthen the program while experts worry about its fairness.  WRHI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nation Ford Falcons are looking for a new athletic director after Bryan Dillon resigned on Aug. 19th after about 10 months on the job. Fort Mill School District posted the interim position to serve the remainder of the school year and will begin a full-time search in February or March.  Fort Mill Prep Sports
  • Fort Mill High School's sports schedule shows that today the coed varsity swimming team will face Nation Ford High School at 6:00 p.m. at the Aquatics Center and on Friday the boys varsity football team will play at 7:30 p.m. at the high school on Munn Road.  Tega Cay Sun
  • Fort Mill will host the second annual Buzz, Sweat & Tears 5K on October 25 at Bob Jones Stadium at 225 Munn Rd E — a Halloween-themed race raising funds for cross country programs at Fort Mill High School and local middle schools. The event will have check-in begin at 2:00 p.m. and the race start at 3:30 p.m., with a free half-mile fun run for children 10 and under — and features a costume contest, food trucks, and trunk-or-treat for registered participants.  Tega Cay Sun
