Good morning, Fort Mill. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 23rd of August.

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • York County Council approved a new solar panel manufacturing facility by Silfab Solar to be built behind the DMV near two new public schools, and residents worry about the release of hazardous air pollutants—environment officials will hold a public hearing Monday, October 30, from 6-8 p.m. while accepting email comments until November 3.  Tega Cay Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina legislators on February 5 rejected Melissa Inzerillo for the 16th Circuit judicial seat covering York and Union counties—she had been the sole candidate after York County Magistrate Jennifer Colton dropped out—and only 4 of 12 York County lawmakers supported her, prompting the reopening of the selection process. This decision marks a break from precedent when sole candidates have normally been confirmed by acclamation.  Tega Cay Sun
  • The York County Sheriff’s Office mourned the loss of Josie—a 27-year-old American Paint Horse who served on the Mounted Patrol Unit for over 16 years and took part in community events. The department invites locals to remember her gentle presence and lasting impact.  Tega Cay Sun

The team will travel to Chester next Friday night to continue their season.  Fort Mill Prep Sports
  • Nation Ford nearly made a comeback—in a tough season opener they lost 34-27 to Blythewood on Friday night—but coach Jake Bentley said he will work to support the team as they prepare to host York next week for their first win.  Fort Mill Prep Sports
