A Mecklenburg County detention officer named Aaron Tindall died in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Fort Mill on S.C.

Highway 460 near the S.C. 160 intersection when his Chrysler sedan left the road and struck a Honda Odyssey— the Honda driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries while the South Carolina Highway Patrol investigates the incident.

South Carolina has secured final funding to place a full-time, armed, and certified school resource officer in every public school—58 new positions have been funded and school districts will soon fill 119 additional roles.

At the start of the school year, 1,106 schools had officers while 177 were awaiting coverage, and state leaders plan to complete the initiative soon.

The Fort Mill Town Council met on August 25 to review a tiny home community proposal from resident Karen Kimp, an update from the Fort Mill History Museum, acceptance of new streets at Water Edge at the Catawba subdivision, and a contract with a local firm for four ADA-compliant picnic shelters at parks. The council also approved a purchase and sale agreement in executive session—details were not disclosed and housing concerns will be part of future discussions.

Catawba Ridge boys’ volleyball team swept Boiling Springs in their home opener with a 3-0 win that brought them to a 4-1 season mark.

Coach Ross Lisee said the team — which has many seniors — remains confident as they prepare for their Region 3-5A match at Fort Mill High on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The Fort Mill girls’ tennis team opened their season yesterday with a 5-1 win over the Northwestern Trojans in Region 3-5A play—winning every match in straight sets except for one loss at No. 1 singles.

Key wins by players and a strong doubles performance set a positive tone for the season.

High School Football coaches in the Tri-County area selected Week Zero players of the week, with Fort Mill’s Joseph Duey earning Defensive Player honors and Noah Hardy recognized as Special Teams Player — winners also include athletes from Nation Ford, Rock Hill, and Chester who excelled in various positions.
