  • Sharon Floyd from Better Bound Bookstore—known for empowering at risk youth—joined Ashley Lang on the Straight Talk podcast on August 29th to discuss ways to support young people. The program highlighted efforts to build a stronger future for at risk youth.  WRHI

CRIME NEWS

  • A Rock Hill Police K9 officer was stabbed multiple times while holding suspect Travonte Tate during a violent incident on August 28—Apollo is now at an emergency veterinary hospital and scheduled for surgery.  Tega Cay Sun
  • Fort Mill police are investigating a homicide that occurred Thursday night just after 10:30 at Steele Street Park after reports of gunfire—officers found a 21-year-old man from Chester named Johnny Wayne Martin Cook who was pronounced dead that evening and noted there is no known threat to the community.  WRHI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nation Ford head coach Jake Bentley earned his first win when his Falcons beat York 28-14 on August 29—the team celebrated with a Gatorade bucket bath after a tough loss to Blythewood. They will play their first road game at River Bluff on Sept. 5.  Fort Mill Prep Sports
  • After a win last week, the Catawba Ridge Copperheads lost a road game in Roebuck—falling 30-7 to the Dorman Cavaliers and dropping to 1-1 on the season as they struggled with offense; they will host the Chester Cyclones next week for their home opener.  Fort Mill Prep Sports
  • On Friday, Aug. 29, the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets beat the Chester Cyclones 35-14—marking their first win at Chester since 1998 and earning a 2-0 start for the first time since 2015; the team won 52-6 last week and will play in Blythewood next week.  Fort Mill Prep Sports
