ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildlife experts warned residents in Fort Mill to be cautious as baby copperheads begin to appear this fall, noting that these snakes give birth to live young and each litter typically contains 4 to 10 small venomous babies—prompting advice to wear long pants and shoes with covered toes when outdoors. Residents are also urged to keep yards tidy and supervise pets to help reduce snake bite risks.  Tega Cay Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At its September 22 meeting, the Fort Mill Town Council approved a budget of $73.5 million for the next fiscal year and launched the new GIS Hub that gives residents access to town boundaries, zoning and utilities — the council also set new rules for door-to-door solicitors, approved grant and contracts for traffic and infrastructure projects, and denied an annexation request on Williams Road for public road access.  Tega Cay Sun
  • Micah Jane Decker has been named Executive Director of the Olde English District Tourism Commission—she will lead efforts to improve tourism marketing and build regional partnerships across the seven-county area while highlighting the region's rich history and natural beauty.  Tega Cay Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • Northwestern played on a rainy field Friday night and beat Catawba Ridge 56—20 with big plays including a 70 yard touchdown run by Nigel Smith and an interception return by Kamerin McFadden. Meanwhile, Indian Land won 33—9 over Rock Hill to improve its record to 5—0.  Tega Cay Sun
  • Fort Mill football lost 27-26 to Clover High School at Bob Jones Stadium after Clover made a strong comeback with three late touchdowns — head coach Rob McNeely said he and his staff will take responsibility for the game. The Yellow Jackets will play on the road on Oct. 3 in Rock Hill and on Oct. 10 against Northwestern.  Fort Mill Prep Sports
  • Fort Mill High School swim team swept rivals Nation Ford and Catawba Ridge at the Fort Mill Aquatics Center on Sept. 25—winning five relay events and several individual races—and now prepares for the Region 3-5A meet on Oct. 4.  Fort Mill Prep Sports
  • The Clover Blue Eagles rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets 27-26 Friday night at Fort Mill High School—seizing the win with less than two minutes remaining after a key fumble on a kickoff return.  Tega Cay Sun
