- ➤ The Humane Society of York County in Fort Mill is highlighting adoptable pets—a four-year-old calico cat named Chuckles and a six-month-old mixed-breed pup named Blair brought in two weeks ago—to find loving forever homes. Both animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, and the shelter encourages local residents to consider adoption. Tega Cay Sun

- ➤ A guest noticed a crack in the support structure of the Fury 325 roller coaster at Carowinds—prompting the park to close the ride immediately as officials plan major repairs while the closure length remains unknown. Tega Cay Sun
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Duke Energy — in coordination with local emergency management agencies — will test 89 outdoor warning sirens near Catawba and 67 near McGuire on Oct. 8 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.; the sirens will sound for about three minutes to check the emergency alert system as no public action is needed. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Rosters for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas have been released as five seniors from York and Lancaster counties were chosen to represent South Carolina. The all-star game will be held on Dec. 20 at 1 p.m. at Spartanburg High School—matching top seniors from South Carolina against those from North Carolina. Tega Cay Sun
- ➤ The Fort Mill High School marching band won the Grand Championship at the Hickory Ridge Festival of Bands on September 27—earning top awards for music, visuals, percussion and more among 23 bands in Class 6A. The band will compete next weekend at the Charger Cup at Cox Mill High School in Concord. Tega Cay Sun
- ➤ Catawba Ridge girls' golf team won a wet match at Fort Mill Golf Club against Nation Ford and Fort Mill with team scores of 343, 364 and 372 — their win improved the Copperheads to an 11-0 season with Anjali Peddisetty leading at 78.
