- ➤ The Humane Society of York County in Fort Mill is featuring two adoptable pets—a quiet cat named Zambra healing from his owner's loss and a playful puppy named Mango who impressed visitors with his manners. - ➤ Model A Brewing won a gold medal for its American Dreamin’ beer in the Barrel-Aged/Strong Ale group and a silver for its Auf Wiedersehen beer in the Amber & Dark Lager group at the Charlotte Independent Brewers Alliance Awards for 2025—an event featuring nearly 150 entries from 32 local breweries. - ➤ Nation Ford DAR in Fort Mill has received a $4650 grant from the SC250 American Revolution Commission to fund a new interpretive sign at Old Unity Cemetery that honors eight Revolutionary War Patriots. The group will host a sign unveiling at 10 a.m. on November 8th + the Fort Mill High School JROTC will take part in the ceremony. Tega Cay Sun
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Nation Ford High School Marching Band won the Olde English Tournament of Bands on October 18 at Rock Hill District 3 Stadium in Rock Hill by scoring highest in the 5A class and earning awards for Best Music Performance + Best Visual Effect and Best General Effect; it will next perform at the 5A State Marching Band Championships on October 25 at River Bluff High School in Lexington. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson joined Florida and Georgia attorneys general to ask the Commerce Department to shift red snapper and reef fishery management to state agencies—arguing that federal data is flawed and slow processes limit local fishermen’s needs. Tega Cay Sun
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Both the Catawba Ridge Copperheads and Nation Ford Falcons qualified for the 5A Division II state golf tournament that will be held Oct. 27 and 28 at Hackler Golf Course at Coastal Carolina University. Fort Mill did not qualify — its team finished ninth by seven strokes. Fort Mill Prep Sports
