COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Humane Society of York County in Fort Mill is featuring Jimmy Fallon, a friendly cat over 1½ years old, and Denise, a resilient dog over 4½ years old who has waited more than two years for a home. The shelter is operating over capacity and is asking local residents for help by scheduling visits and donating supplies.  Tega Cay Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bruce Fonte won the Tega Cay MGA Gross Match Play Championship when he beat Matt Bowman in the final by winning all five of his matches in a field of 16 players—he kept his play steady throughout the tournament.  Tega Cay Sun
  • The Catawba Ridge girls’ volleyball team was upset in the second round of the 5A Division II playoffs when the Hillcrest Rams won the match in five sets. The Copperheads lost 3—2 with scores of 25—21, 22—25, 24—16, 19—25, and 8—15, ending their season at 22—13—1 as coach Alicia Lisee said finishing was an issue.  Fort Mill Prep Sports
  • Fort Mill High School swept both the boys' and girls' team titles at the Bob Jenkins York County Cross Country Championships on October 25- the boys finished with 23 points and the girls with 26 points. Ella Nighbor from Clover broke the girls' course record in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:26.12.  Tega Cay Sun
  • Nation Ford High School Marching Band won its 11th 5A State Championship title on October 25 at River Bluff High School—earning top awards in both prelims and finals. The band will finish its season with a community show and two national contests in November including the BOA Southeastern Regional in White, GA and the BOA Grand National Championships in Indianapolis.  Tega Cay Sun
