The Fort Mill High School girls won their third state title and the boys secured their second crown at the SC High School 5A Division 2 State Championship held Saturday—each team finishing with top runners that drove a strong performance.
The girls outscored Greenville by 36 points while four boys finished in the top ten to strengthen Fort Mill’s legacy in cross country.
On Nov. 15, Fort Mill’s boys repeated as state champions and the girls won their third title in a row at the Aiken Steeplechase, giving the school a sweep of state crowns for the second consecutive year.
Coach Lee Whitaker became a six-time cross-country state champion — his teams’ all-around success marked a historic achievement for the school.
