EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nation Ford High School Marching Band traveled to Indianapolis for Music For All’s Bands of America Grand National Championships and reached the semifinalist round by ranking 23rd in preliminaries and 28th in semifinals—marking their second consecutive appearance in this stage. The band will finish their season with a performance at the Fort Mill Christmas Parade on December 6.  Tega Cay Sun
  • The Fort Mill School Board of Trustees met on November 18 and elected new leaders while recognizing 4A and 5A state champions and approving new high school courses for the 2026-2027 school year. The meeting also reviewed financial reports, state achievement scores and policy updates — including livestreaming board meetings and unencumbered time for school nurses.  Tega Cay Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The York County Sheriff’s Office is offering residents a behind-the-badge look through its 2026 Citizens Academy, with applications opening tomorrow, November 21. The free program is limited to 20 local applicants—up to 25 seats may be available for those who meet the eligibility requirements.  Tega Cay Sun
  • A Senate Medical Affairs subcommittee heard differing views on a bill that will require health care providers to give warnings before giving a COVID-19 vaccine—supporters say the warning informs patients of potential risks while critics worry it may discourage vaccination. The subcommittee advanced the bill to full committee for more testimony.  Tega Cay Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • Head boys’ coach Brett Childers said his Copperheads, who finished 11–17 last season, will start the season at a tournament at Dorman High School on Nov. 24 and 25 — aiming for better cohesiveness with senior Mark Caslaru leading the charge. Girls’ coach Sheridan Pressley said her young Lady Copperheads, coming off an 8–17 season, will open in a tournament in Spartanburg on Nov. 22 — and she expects a strong home game run and playoff push later in the season.  Fort Mill Prep Sports
